Along their work, deufert&plischke have again and again questioned the meaning of the artist ego as a point of reference. As their most radical attempt deufert&plischke, together with different communities, have since 2005 been inventing female artists who never existed - but could have existed or even should have existed - along a local and historical search for traces. First a biography is developed collectively along the local histories. Therefore the project starts with a search for traces: what are the local art histories? Who was/is around, who was/is influential? Once a biography is developed, the work of the artist needs to be outlined, and then reconstructed. The project ends with a retrospective of the artist, exhibiting the artwork alongside talks, introductions, walks through the city on the traces of the artist ...

Im Zuge ihrer Arbeiten haben deufert&plischke die Bedeutung des Künstler:innen-Egos als Bezugspunkt immer wieder in Frage gestellt. Als radikalsten Versuch erfinden sie seit 2005 gemeinsam mit verschiedenen Communities Künstlerinnen, die es nie gegeben hat - aber gegeben haben könnte oder sogar hätte geben müssen - mit Hilfe einer spezifischen Spurensuche vor Ort. Entlang der lokalen Geschichten wird zunächst in der Gruppe eine Biographie entwickelt. Das Projekt beginnt mit Fragen wie: Was sind die lokalen Kunstgeschichten? Wer war/ist in der Nähe, wer war/ist einflussreich? Sobald eine Biografie entwickelt ist, muss das Werk der/des Künstler:in/s skizziert und (nach)geschaffen werden. Das Projekt endet mit einer Retrospektive der Künstlerin, einer Ausstellung ihrer Kunstwerke sowie Gesprächen, Einführungen und gemeinsamen Spaziergängen durch die Stadt auf den Spuren der Künstlerin ...

Ziel ist es, nach lokalen Geschichten, Leben, Bewegungen zu suchen, um eine Biografie zu finden, die es nicht gibt, aber hätte geben können: eine Stimme derjenigen, die in den privilegierten Auswahlprozessen der Kunst oft übersehen wurden und werden: Frauen.

The aim is to look for local histories, lives, movements, to grub out a biography that doesn't exist, but could have existed: a voice of those who were often overseen in the privileged selection processes of art: women.

All the artworks are created collectively and published under the name of the invented artist. The communities often continue to work collectively under the invented artist's name. deufert&plischke are initiators and mid wives of this projects, and they hope that once the artist (collectives) is born, she has a long artistic life ahead!

Alle Kunstwerke werden gemeinschaftlich produziert und unter dem Namen der erfundenen Künstlerin veröffentlicht. Die Gruppe kann kollektiv unter dem Namen der erfundenen Künstlerin weiterarbeiten. deufert&plischke sind lediglich Initiator:innen und Hebammen dieser Projekte und hoffen, dass die Künstlerin (Kollektive), sobald sie geboren ist, ein langes künstlerisches Leben vor sich hat!
